The Boot Store carries a full line of Rugged Outerwear from Carhartt.
Carhartt is well known for being the heart of blue-collar America. It’s the choice of the nation’s working class, and their boots and clothing have an enduring appeal to everyone. Carhartt has been seen on movie stars, musicians, and politicians of every party—as well as on workers of every type.
Carhartt was founded in 1889 and was first known as Hamilton Carhartt & Company. They started out producing overalls with just two sewing machines in Detroit. They created the first bib overall and developed the motto, “Honest value for an honest dollar.” Carhartt quickly became the standard for quality workwear for the workingman.
Soon, Carhartt’s company included mills in South Carolina and Georgia and sewing facilities in Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, and San Francisco. They then expanded internationally and offered their facilities to the government during WWI, producing uniforms for the military. In WWII, they produced coveralls for soldiers, personnel, and working women entering the job force in order to support the war effort.
The brand grew in the 1970s with the construction of the Alaska Pipeline—Carhartt proved their clothing could protect workers in even the toughest, coldest conditions. In the 70s and 80s, consumers who weren’t in blue collar jobs found the brand and began to wear it. Hip-hop culture embraced Carhartt, and international interest grew.
A women’s line was introduced in 1996, as was their flame resistant garment line. The brand has stood the test of time. Produced in Kentucky and Tennessee, their “Made in the USA” line was inspired by America’s workers and is extremely popular in blue-collar industries.
During the last 15 years, Carhartt has produced over 80 million shoes and items of clothing in America.
